Background
Mkokomo Limited is a natural mineral water bottling company. The company which is a subsidiary of Word Alive Ministries International was set up in 2006 and is situated at the church’s farm which is about 25 km from Blantyre City.
The idea of Mkokomo bottled water was conceived when a borehole was dug at the church farm to provide water for both the farm and the villagers. A visit by some church leaders to the farm led to the testing of the water and it was discovered that the water was clean and suitable for drinking without further purification.
Malawi Bureau of Standards also analyzed the water and approved it for sale on the Malawi market, whilst they continued to monitor its quality through their normal periodic audits before awarding the certificate.
Vision
The vision of Mkokomo Limited is to become a major supplier of natural mineral water.
Why the Investment
Demand for natural mineral water has been increasing in the country but it is mostly sourced from outside the country at a premium price. But now, Mkokomo would offer the nation an opportunity to drink natural mineral water at a reasonable price.
The business would assist in raising finances to be used for helping the underprivileged and support local community development work through the church’s developmental arm – Word Alive Commission for Relief and Development (WACRAD) and ministry needs.
Current projects under WACRAD include Home Based Care/Orphans and Vulnerable Children (HBC/OVC), HIV Testing and Counseling (HTC), Food Security and Relief and Spiritual Significance.
We live in a day when the world economy is gloomy, and this therefore has resulted in donors cutting aid. Instead of scaling down our activities, we believe we need to take ownership of the social work by generating our own income.

Purification Process
As highlighted earlier, Mkokomo water does not go through any purification process, it is natural mineral water. Without further purification the water is well within the requirements of Malawi Bureau of Standards for commercial sale in Malawi.
When processing the water the company uses a 500litre water tank and a UV sterilizing machine, among others.
