Mkokomo receives certification
Management of Mkokomo Limited, a Water Bottling Company which is a subsidiary of Word Alive Ministries International on 22 February this year walked tall when Malawi Bureau of Standards awarded the company with a certificate during the awards of permits and designation of certificates ceremony held at Mount Soche Hotel in Blantyre.
The ceremony which attracted a number of companies from the
southern part of the country, who met the
required standards
of the bureau for certification, was graced by Malawi Bureau of
Standards Board
Chairman, Dr Emmauel Fabiano.
The recipient of the certificate by Mkokomo Limited means the
company is now legally certified by the
Malawi Government to
produce and sell the bottled water which the bureau has
approved to be of excellent
quality and good for consumption.
Speaking during the function and before business gurus that gathered in the Njamba room of the hotel,
Dr Fabiano said the bureau as an arm of the government will ensure that companies produce products of
good quality in order to protect the good reputation of the country’s market. He said there is a need for Malawi’s products to be competitive on the international market and this will require consistent efforts by the local producers.
“We would like as a country to have good reputation in as far as quality
is concerned. Our products need to compete on the international market
and this will require you, as producers to adhere to quality. And let me
say that as a bureau we will not
compromise to withdrawal your
certificate if you are not consistent in your standards,” said Dr Fabiano
who added that the certification of the companies is a positive
contribution to the development of the nation.
Earlier the Director General of the Bureau Mr Chokazinga encouraged
the companies to dream quality, think
quality and talk quality.
In an interview with Word Alive Media, Managing Director of Mkokomo
Limited Rev Dr Zacc Kawalala could
not hide his joy that his company
has finally received recognition form Malawi Government.
“I think this is a plus for us. We have been waiting for the bureau to certify us for a long time, I think for a year
now after a series of audits they have done on our product. This means our product (Mkokomo) will now be
accepted on the market and automatically our sales will go up,” said Rev Dr Kawalala.
He promised that Mkokomo has come to stay on the market and very soon the company will start producing 1litre bottles of the water.
The proceeds of Mkokomo bottled water are meant to assist the poor and other vulnerable children.
